Laboratory Technician

About this opportunity

Reporting to the Quality Business Partner, you will work across both laboratory quality control and on-floor quality assurance at our Auckland site. Alongside routine testing and product release, you will spend time in production and packing verifying that food safety, quality, packaging and labelling controls are working as intended. You will work closely with the Quality and Laboratory team, Operations, Sales, Customer Services, Research and Development, and other site teams to support right-first-time production and ensure products meet quality, food safety and customer requirements.

This opportunity is suited to an early-career quality professional with some QC, laboratory or food manufacturing experience who wants to develop beyond testing into practical quality assurance. The role provides exposure to production verification, internal auditing, investigations, corrective actions, documentation and quality systems while retaining a strong technical laboratory foundation.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct flour testing, including NIR analysis, moisture, protein, ash and other quality parameters.
  • Collect production samples and maintain accurate test records.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and testing standards.
  • Issue certificates of analysis and communicate quality results and exceptions.
  • Complete routine production and packing-line quality checks, including pre-start, line-clearance, packaging and label verification.
  • Review production, packaging and quality records to support product release.
  • Conduct GMP inspections, line observations and internal audit activities.
  • Verify food safety programmes, including allergen control, hygiene, traceability and environmental monitoring.
  • Identify and support the investigation and resolution of quality non-conformances.
  • Assist with traceability exercises, customer complaints, audit preparation and document control.
  • Work closely with Production and Packing teams to communicate findings, manage quality risks and verify corrective actions.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related discipline.
  • Approximately one year of experience in quality control, laboratory or food manufacturing testing experience.
  • Practical experience using laboratory equipment and maintaining accurate testing records.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accurate documentation.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across Production and Quality teams.
  • A genuine interest in developing a career in food quality assurance.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP, internal audits, corrective actions or quality management systems is desirable.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with laboratory or quality management systems are beneficial.

Your development

This is a development role designed to bridge QC and QA. You will build on your laboratory experience while learning how quality is assured on the manufacturing floor, from line and packaging verification through to product release, internal audits, investigations, corrective actions, traceability, document control and audit preparation. You will be supported by the site Quality team as you build the practical capability required for a future quality assurance role.

What’s on offer

  • Competitive salary and a 7.5% short-term incentive scheme.
  • Parental leave benefits in addition to minimum entitlements.
  • Discounted hotel rates across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Discounted Southern Cross health insurance premiums.
  • Study assistance after 12 months of continuous service.
  • Two days of paid community volunteering leave each calendar year, subject to programme requirements.
  • Free company products.
