Mechanical/ Maintenance Engineer Apprentice (Fixed-term) | Wiri

Tip Top is looking for a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer Apprentice to join our Engineering team at our Wiri site. This is a hands-on opportunity to build a trade qualification while working on real production equipment in a fast-paced, 24/7 food manufacturing environment.

About the role

You'll work alongside our experienced engineering team, gaining practical skills in mechanical maintenance and reliability while completing your trade qualification. You'll be involved in day-to-day maintenance, breakdown response, planned works and capital projects across the site, with support and mentoring from qualified tradespeople throughout.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting with the maintenance, repair and installation of production equipment
• Learning to diagnose and fix mechanical faults under supervision
• Supporting planned maintenance activities and shutdown work
• Working safely and to food safety standards in a manufacturing environment
• Attending block courses and completing your apprenticeship study requirements
• Documenting work completed in our maintenance system (MEX)

• A genuine interest in mechanical/maintenance engineering and how things work
• Willingness to learn, ask questions and take direction
• A strong safety mindset
• Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team
• NCEA Level 2 or equivalent (Maths and/or Workshop Technology an advantage)
• Full driver's licence preferred

• A fully funded trade apprenticeship with on-the-job training and mentoring
• Exposure to a wide range of equipment and engineering work
• A supportive team environment with a strong focus on safety and development
• Competitive apprentice wages, increasing as you progress through your qualification
